Blocky Snakes takes the classic snake formula and rebuilds it as a grid-based puzzle game, where every move is a deliberate step rather than a real-time dash. Play it directly in your browser with no download required, which means it loads on school and work networks that block installable apps or .exe files — just open the page and start solving.
Unlike the original arcade snake, Blocky Snakes moves one tile at a time using the arrow keys or WASD, turning it into a puzzle about planning your path rather than testing your reaction speed. Each level is a fixed grid containing fruit blocks (which grow your snake by one segment), key blocks (needed to unlock the exit), and wall or spike tiles that end the level instantly if you run into them.
The core challenge is spatial: as your snake grows longer, your own tail becomes an obstacle, so early moves can box you in later. Levels are solved the moment you collect all required key blocks and reach the exit tile — there's no time limit, so you can pause mid-level to plan your route without penalty.
The game ships with 40 hand-built levels split across four difficulty tiers. Early levels introduce one mechanic at a time (basic movement, then fruit collection, then keys), while later levels combine moving spike blocks and narrow corridors that require precise sequencing. A level select screen lets you replay any previously cleared level, and your furthest unlocked level is saved locally in your browser.
Start playing Blocky Snakes now and see how far you get before your own tail boxes you in. The later levels are deceptively tricky for a game with such simple rules.
